Alpha-lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant that can help repair existing skin damage and fight future damage, because it is soluble in both oil and water, which permits its entrance to all parts of the cell. It diminishes fine lines and gives skin a healthy glow.

I was never a great one for heights and I enjoyed the experience less than Barry and John, who hooted at each other as we swayed and rocked on our 2-foot-by-9-inch platforms, 100 feet above the South China Sea, the Vexilla lolling slowly side to side in the deep swell. Sometimes we were given to the third mate, who would work us in his areas of responsibility. The third mate was responsible for all the safety equipment on the ship: lifeboats, breathing apparatus, fire hoses, fire extinguishers and all the related gear. We sanded and oiled the oars, scrubbed out and painted the boats, changed the fresh water, aired the sails and rigging and packed everything away as it should be. We surreptitiously stole spare barley sugar from the spare lifeboat stores and gorged ourselves until we felt sick. All the time, we became stronger, fitter, browner, quicker, more skilled at the work we did. When the ship was loaded, we took the temperatures on a daily basis. The weather was occasionally blowing, causing the sea to break and rush across the deck, at which time we had to run and dodge as we fled for safety to the higher points. As the weeks wore on, the three of us could do all 30 tanks in 30 minutes, dropping thermometers down six tanks at a time, then going back to read them one-by-one. We would memorise all the readings.
