The Best Homemade Superhealing Lip Balm for All Dry Damaged Skin Types

A therapeutic lip balm with additional nourishing and protective properties for seriously chapped, cracked and damaged lips. Use in summer and winter to protect from harsh weather, sun, wind and dehydration. Apply as needed and especially before night slumber for strongest reparative results.

1 oz. coconut oil 1/2 oz. St. Johnswort-infused olive oil

1 oz. shea butter (see p. 29)

1 oz. jojoba oil 1/2 oz. castor oil

1/2 oz. wheat germ oil 1 oz. beeswax

1/2 oz. calendula-infused olive oil 44 drops lavender essential oil

Follow Directions for Salves and Balms. When pouring the melted beeswax-and-oil combination into containers, add 2 drops of lavender essential oil per 1/2 oz. lip balm, and place lid immediately on the container to prevent the evaporation of the essential oils. Note: Vi-oz. lip balm containers are available by mail order (see Resources). Makes 6 oz.

This lip balm uses solid oils as well as liquid oils. The solid oils are solid at room temperature and don’t require beeswax to thicken them. So the liquid oils, which add up to 3 oz., will be solidified by 1 oz. beeswax. When following the salve-making directions, measure out the solid oils and add them to the liquid oils and proceed as instructed. Variation follows:
