George Harrison is also quoted as saying that Donovan’s influence is “all over the White Album.” Donovan struck up a close relationship with Paul McCartney and contributed to the lyric of the song Yellow Submarine. Donovam also taught John Lennon and McCartney a finger picking guitar style when he accompanied The Beatles to India, to meet with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in early 1968. It attracted global attention, with all four Beatles, Beach Boys lead singers Brian Wilson and Mike Love, and actress Mia Farrow attending. Donovan was one of the first people to practice and teach Transcendental Meditation in the UK. Probably also the first to fuse musical styles from other cultures that we now know as world music.
