Two of Yara’s must-haves for achieving hair and natural flair!
Next, create small two-strand twists throughout the hair.
Allow the twists to air-dry overnight. Release the twists in the morning (use a diffuser on the hair if not completely dry) and then finger-comb to loosen the curls. To complete the look, use a pick to lift the hair at the roots for volume.

When you come from a creatively gifted family, the influence is inevitable! Such is the case for the multitalented Mila J. Her father introduced the young Mila to music at the tender age of 2, and by the age of 5, she was well on her way to a life in the creative arts, once she was enrolled in her first dance class.
“I knew I wanted to be a performer.
I fell in love with the stage through dance,” Mila J shares, and cites Janet Jackson as a major influence on her dance technique. “Janet Jackson was the first performer I saw live. When I saw Janet, I knew that was the kind of artist I wanted to be. Her innovation, her dancing inspired me.”
Mila continued to hone her craft as a dancer, later signing on with a talent agency, where she auditioned and landed a much-coveted guest appearance in the legendary Prince’s 1991 music video for “Diamonds and Pearls.” From there, Mila J tapped into her musical roots, forming the group Gyrl, alongside her sister Miyoko and Paulette Maxwell, though Mila J eventually became a solo artist after signing on with Motown Records in 2006. After a hiatus, Mila J released a self-titled five-song mixtape, under the moniker Japallonia.
“It was just something I felt like I wanted to do. I’m the kind of person who goes with my gut, and I wanted to give my fans some music from me. Songs that I felt best represented me as an artist,” Mila J explains.
Over the years, Mila J has cultivated not only a distinctive sound, but also her own unique, individual style. She can often be seen in the most fashion-forward ensembles, and she often experiments with an array of statement-making hair looks.
On our pages, Mila J is fabulous in eye-catching hairstyles. Her elegant updo is stunning, complete with bun and fringe bangs. To get the look: Shampoo, condition and blow-dry the hair. Sweep hair up into a neat bun and secure with a hair holder; apply a quality gel to the edges for a polished look. Next, use a comb straightener or an ionic smoothing brush to silken the bangs to perfection. Finish the look with a light application of oil-sheen spray to achieve stellar shine like Mila’s.
For her second coiffure, Mila wows in beautiful wet and wavy tresses. Get the look with the wash-and-go technique if your hair texture is similar to Mila’s. Simply shampoo, condition and then towel-blot to get rid of any excess water. Next, apply a dollop of gel and mousse throughout the hair and brush through evenly to complete the sultry look.
