During these chats, I make sure I really connect not only with whoever I am talking to, but also to my own deepest feelings. I find that I always come away feeling uplifted, fulfilled and loved. Another thing that always makes me feel good is listening to music, in particular the music I grew up with, the music my mum and dad listened to UB40, Bob Marley, Kenny Rogers, The Eagles, Prince and Fleetwood Mac are some of my favourites! I also love going back to the RnB that Jason and I listened to when we first started going out Boyz II Men, Tevin Campbell, Jodeci, 2Pac, Snoop Dog, G-Unit and LL Cool J are some old-school jams we love to reminisce over. Another way of thinking about happiness and sadness or good or poor mental makeup is the concept of living above or below the line. When we live our life above the line, we see life from a positive place with a lot of light and we feel happy, hopeful, energised, in control and optimistic. When we live our life below the line, we view life with a negative, dark attitude, which leads us to feel sad, angry, powerless, scared or hopeless. The reality is, every one of us will be faced with challenges sometimes we’ll be above the line and sometimes below so the key is to try to recognise when negative thoughts are creeping in, and try to react to them in a constructive way to make sure we don not spend too much time below the line. Changing your thought patterns is not an overnight job it is an ongoing process and takes both practice and patience. Over the years, I have worked on my mindset and trained myself to catch myself during those moments I would normally react with a negative thought or comment. Instead I choose to see the world and people in a more positive light.
