This is a soothing, skin-reparative astringent. It contains about 20 percent alcohol, which may be drying for some skin if used undiluted.
Combine the following freshly dried 16 oz. water herbs: 1 handful calendula bios- 8 oz. 80 proof vodka (or other 80 soms, 1 tablespoon comfrey root proof liquor) (crushed or powdered) 2 teaspoons aloe vera gel Make infusion with herbs and water. Let steep for 4 hours. Pour 8 oz. of strained herbal infusion into a 16-oz. jar, then add vodka and aloe. Cap and shake well. It is ready to use. Makes about 16 oz.
Variation: For a less drying effect, dilute 1/2 -1/2 teaspoon of astringent with 1 teaspoon of distilled rose water or plain water per application.
