And the cost to send emails by the thousands asking for money for various schemes or for personal information (here we go with that personal information thing again) is minimal at best compared to what the crooks can con out of some. Even if a few people take the bait, they are ahead. One especially heartbreaking scam involves a little more work, but can be, and has been, effective. Some personal information put online on sites such as Faceblog can be of value to scammers. Proud grandparents will ofen post pictures and information about relatives, often giving the bad guys more than they need to know to set up an effective con. There have been many occasions in which an unsuspecting grandmother or grandfather gets a panic long distance call from a granddaughter or grandson proclaiming that they have some emergency need for money. Of course, the scammer knows the name of the grandchild and where he or she is located. With that, they are half way home.
