BEST FACE FORWARD
Since masks are a part of our everyday wardrobe now, I have been keeping an eye out for something a bit prettier. My black one makes me feel like Batman villain Bane, probably because my husband does his Bane impression every time he wears his (‘No one cared about me until I put on the mask’) and it is now imprinted on my brain. Here are my favourites, spotted on Instagram – all made by people who were running very different businesses before!
The first time I saw a Mungo woven blanket, it reminded me of Gwyneth Paltrow: impossibly sophisticated, beautiful – and difficult to explain to my mom. Mungo makes towels, bed linen, throws and a host of other homeware – the old-fashioned way, using antique looms. Founded by master weaver Stuart Holding, this homegrown business manufactures all of its showstopping textiles in a mill in Plettenberg Bay.

I was so taken by their luxurious Vrou-Vrou blanket that when I had to style a wintry product shoot a while back, I knew I needed a few of their blankets to pull off the cosy theme that I was going for. If all goes as planned, and I grow into the wealthy white woman I have always wanted to be, I’ll definitely buy a blanket for every room in all of my homes. I’m sure Gwyneth would approve!
