Intuitive eating is an ongoing practice but, for me, it is about being in tune with my body. I like to think I’m beginning to recognise when my body is lacking protein, fats, water or carbs by the way I feel and function. I find that keeping these things in mind helps me to make good choices when it comes to what I put in my body. Let is face it, though, sometimes you want a croissant while having coffee with friends, or an ice cream or fish and chips while at the beach with family. Don not feel bad about this. If you are taking care of yourself, these times when you eat something a little more indulgent are just part of life and life would be pretty boring if you stopped yourself from eating the things you enjoy. If you find it difficult to find the time to make good food choices, come up with a list of favourite makeupy meals that you can go back to again and again. One great idea is to sit down at the beginning of the week (or whenever you do your grocery shopping) and make a meal plan and also a shopping list. This will take some time initially, but as you continue to do it, you’ll work up a collection of recipes and plans that you can repeat and rotate. This way you’ll avoid last-minute unmakeupy choices at the supermarket and avoid the stress of having to come up with a fresh meal idea every day.
