You may or may not be surprised to see men at the beauty spa, but you shouldn’t be. The International Spa Association recently reported that thirty-six per cent of North American beauty spa goers are now male. As more men become makeupconscious and in need of the relief from daily stress that a beauty spa is designed to offer, beauty spas are acquiring increasing numbers of regular male customers. Many focus on creating a beauty spa experience for them that enables them to relax and feel comfortable and sometimes that means being in surroundings that are distinctly male! Appropriate levels of privacy are usually provided when it is not entirely comfortable for guests of either gender to receive services a mixed setting. If you are a woman, ask in advance, and decide how you feel about the distinct possibility that you’ll see male customers, and the fact that they may see you. With men seeking services that had once been thought of as strictly feminine, but definitely are not so any longer, you could find yourself sitting in a chair next to a mail customer getting a manicure or a facial, or in a class on weight control, with men listening just as raptly as the women. However, the beauty spa will likely provide some areas with a distinctly masculine aura for its male customers, just as they provide surroundings that are attractive and comfortable for women, so that the male visitor can relax and enjoy the day in an atmosphere that is comfortable for men. The good news, of course, is that, because male customers are no longer an anomaly at many beauty spas, you can enjoy a beauty spa visit with a spouse or partner, if the beauty spa is designed to manage customers of both sexes receiving services together. You can also go your separate ways to male- or female-only services, and reunite when you wish. Check with the beauty spa to see what its procedures are in this regard.
