Supporters are assigned a family and provided with their basic details (gender and age); they then put together a hamper of food and presents for the family to enjoy on Christmas Day. It is such a rewarding feeling knowing that you can make a difference to an entire family is day, and it definitely makes you more aware and grateful of your own situation at that time of year. These are a few organisations that are dear to my heart you will have your own. Carry out random acts of kindness. You don not necessarily have to focus all your effort into a structured event or ongoing commitment. Why not try to incorporate lots of little acts of kindness throughout your day? The more you do it, the more it will become second nature. Give up your seat on the bus for someone less able to stand than you; call a friend you know has been having a hard time recently; make a cup of tea for a colleague who is having a bad day; let a stranger merge in front of you in traffic; hold the door for a mother with a pushchair; offer to walk the neighbour is dog; or simply smile at a stranger you walk past every day. The best thing about these little gestures is that the more you do for others, the more they’ll do for you. Kindness is mutually beneficial. If you’re someone who likes to write things down, you could keep a record of the things you are doing to help others a physical ‘happiness bank’.
