Creams are luscious preparations applied to the skin that are highly nutritive, moisturizing and emollient. They are largely made of water and oil, which hydrate and lubricate the skin, respectively. Oils can range from somewhat drying to highly lubricating. The type of oil combined with the other ingredients you choose will help to determine the properties of your final product (see Ingredients chapter).
Creams are probably the trickiest preparation in this blog to make, but once you have mastered the technique you will be able to turn out a perfect batch every time. It is important to follow the instructions very closely, measuring the ingredients as accurately as possible. Creams are prone to bacterial contamination and should be made with distilled water, if water is used, along with very clean equipment and hands.
