If eyes are windows of the soul, lips are the mirrors of our mood. Changing lip color is the quickest way to change your entire look. One swipe of lipstick can instantly make a woman look sexier, sweeter, bolder, more rested, more polished, more glamorous, or more put-together, depending on the color and texture chosen. Lip color can define you or change you. Lipstick can be played with, mixed, and blended, quickly and easily. (Blotting off the old color takes only a few seconds and a tissue.) You don’t have to be a technical wizard to wear lipstick properly, so it’s a great place to experiment and have fun with zero frustration. Lipstick is the first thing a young girl reaches for when she starts playacting with her mother’s makeup. It’s no wonder the attraction is powerful.
The Search for the Perfect Lip Color
If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup. This is the magic color that will make your skin, hair, and eyes look their best. By definition, it will be a lip-toned color somewhere in the range of brown-pink, nude, beige-pink, or rosy brown. When you have found it, you will know.
Balancing Act: Eye v. Lip
One of the hallmarks of modern, polished makeup is the proper balance between the eye and the lip. Both features may be made-up, but they should never compete for attention. A heavy, smoky eye calls for a neutral lip. Similarly, a big statement lip whether red, bright, or dark works best with a more neutral eye.
