Beat the BLOAT
Soothe digestive problems by including some tropical fruit in your diet. Pineapple and papaya contain the digestive enzymes bromelain and papain, which can help banish bloat by breaking down protein. Snack on a bowl of these chopped fruits after a protein-heavy meal, or make a mid-afternoon pineapple, papaya and coconut water smoothie for a refreshing pick-me-up.

Try a MASSAGE
A regular massage will help release calming, feel-good hormones into your body while helping to reduce cellulite. It does this by improving blood flow to your trouble zones and softening fatty tissues under the skin. As well as attacking your simply bits, massage also improves the look of your skin – the massage movements encourage exfoliation of the dead skin cells and the oil used gives the skin a healthy sheen. There are different types of massage, from sports massage that focuses on deep tissue work to aid injury recovery, to aromatherapy massage with essential oils that can energise you mentally and emotionally. But all massage boosts the circulation and supply of oxygen to your muscles and your body’s organs, eases muscle ache and distressed you, mind and body.
Take a leaf out of the A-listers’ style book and choose a great pair of nude shoes that perfectly match your skin tone to make your legs look longer. ‘Wearing a nude heel gives the impression your legs are endless and you’ll look slimmer, too,’ says JustFab style expert Alka Makwana (justfab.co.uk). Wearing black tights and black shoes also gives the same effect.’
Hide bingo WINGS
Clever shading using a slightly darker tone of self tan or bronzer can work wonders on flabby arms.Apply tan or bronzer to the underside of your upper arms to make your bingo wings look slimmer and add definition to your biceps, says self-tanning expert Leighton Denny (sun-believable.com).
Snooze to LOSE
Sleep is vital when you’re looking to lose weight. Canadian researchers found adults who averaged five or six hours a night were 35 per cent more likely to gain 10 pounds than those getting seven to eight hours’ sleep. This supports previous research linking obesity with poor sleep, possibly due to the effect on hormone levels, which in turn are associated with feelings of hunger. Plus, tiredness means we eat badly and exercise less, too. If you’re not sleeping well and are under stress, sticking to a weight-loss programme will be more difficult. Try to rethink your bedtime routine. Get to bed by 10.30pm five nights a week and switch off the phone, computer and TV half an hour beforehand. As well as making sure you go to bed at a regular time, try smothering yourself in Phytomer new Glycolight Night Contouring Bi-Gel (£42.75, salonskincare.co.uk) beforehand. This formula contains sea absinthium which is said to target the previous day’s unused sugars that can deposit in the fatty tissues around the waist, thighs and bottom as you sleep.
Busy lives can mean rushed meals. If you don’t chew properly, you swallow air with your food which gets trapped and causes bloating. Chewing your food 30 times before swallowing will not only stop bloating, it can help you feel fuller, faster – it takes 20 minutes for your brain to realise you’re full!
Improve your POSTURE
‘Slouching can add pounds to your body quicker than chocolate cake,’ says Hayley Newton, personal trainer to Pixie Lott and Katherine Jenkins (hayley newton.com). ‘By improving your posture, you’ll stand taller, appear more confident, stylish and attractive.’ Get into the habit of pulling your shoulders back and down, keeping your chin parallel to the floor and puffing your chest out. Good posture can also give your running a boost, improve your oxygen intake, optimise your circulation and help ward off injuries, especially back and neck pain.
Soak and SLIM
Add a cup of Epsom salts to a bath and relax for 15 minutes. Epsom salts are an ancient remedy for drawing out excess fluid and toxins from your body. One or two of these baths a week will speed up weight loss.
Tone with ATAN
Did you know that fake-tanning can give the illusion of a svelter, slimmer you? The yellow pigment in the tan can help tone down areas of redness such as cellulite and stretch marks, while adding bronzer in the right places can have a slimming effect on your body. Once you’ve tanned your legs, apply some bronzing powder to the inner and outer sides of your legs. This will instantly make your legs look slimmer by drawing the eye to the middle area, says Denny.
