You could spend your entire life mastering all the makeup techniques I have detailed in this book. But please don’t do that! I’d much prefer if you would use my makeup manual selectively, choosing the techniques and information most important to you. Then, at other moments or on another occasions, come back to the manual to pick up new information.

It’s easier said than done, but try not to get caught up in the hype of the beauty world. Don’t feel like you’re the only one to have ever suffered through a bad beauty day because, I promise you, we all have. Don’t compare yourself to airbrushed images of perfection because no one, anywhere, could ever look as good as the pictures we see in magazines.

When it comes to buying cosmetics, don’t be cowed or pushed around by counter salespeople. Don’t get frustrated if you don’t get a new technique right on the first try makeup, like anything else, takes a little practice. (Sometimes even for me!) And don’t develop unrealistic expectations for products: There are no beauty miracles.
