Static-active flexibility describes a movement that uses only your own muscle group to extend a position; for example, lifting a leg and holding it in position. Static-passive describes a movement that requires other forces to maintain the position, such as a chair or your own body weight. Aim to incorporate both types in your workout for maximum benefit.
