Studies show that chewing gum can improve long-term and working memory. The chewing action increases the heart rate, improving the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the brain, and triggers the release of insulin, which may stimulate memory.
Make a concerted effort to keep up-to-date with technological advances. Get an iPod and download some current music tracks or podcasts, or log onto YouTube or MySpace. Don’t try to compete with younger people just keep abreast of trends and make sure you know what they’re talking about.

All goes well until he says, You need cataract surgery. That is for old people, I say. All the ophthalmologist does is raise his eyebrows. One more confirmation that the clock is ticking. Turns out, the surgery is not so bad. The required eye patch is actually quite dashing and invariably encourages expressions of compassion or variations on any of several dozen cyclops jokes.
