HALT THE SHRINKING PROCESS
A strong straight back is key to keeping the height you had at 20. After the age of 40, we shrink 1 cm (1/2 inch) every 10 years, so practise lying on your tummy with arms outstretched in front of you, and gently raise one arm for the count of 10 as you breathe out. Repeat 8 times with both arms.
INCREASE YOUR MOBILITY
Your joints can tighten and become thicker as you age but flexibility exercises can help increase the mobility. Bending, rotating and extending your joints prevents injury, so follow a good gentle stretching regime four or five days a week. Avoid any positions that can compress your vertebrae and put undue stress on your spine, however, such as vigorous forward or side twists.
