Ombre Hair Brown To Auburn

Pooh pooh the hair shampoo?

We are taught from an early age to shampoo our hair to keep it “squeaky” clean. However, shampooing may be causing more damage than we realise.

The Facts: Most shampoos available contain harsh, drying concoctions that are extremely damaging to our hair by stripping it of its natural oils (sebum).

Also, with each shampoo, these chemicals (especially sodium laureth sulphate) can cause protein loss to the hair shaft.6 Over time, this protein loss reduces the diameter of the hair shaft and creates thinner, weaker hair.

The main culprits in these shampoos are:

* ammonium laureth sulphate

* ammonium lauryl sulphate

* sodium laureth sulphate (SLS)

* sodium lauryl sulphate

New formulas are created every year, so be on the lookout and try to avoid any shampoos that contain ingredients with mixes that include the words sodium, lauryl/laureth, ammonium and sulphate/sulphide.

Both sodium lauryl sulphate and sodium laureth sulphate are used as detergents and wetting agents in car wash soaps, engine degreasers and garage floor cleaners. These chemicals are present in 90 percent of shampoos that create foam or lather. Damaged hair is more susceptible to SLS protein loss than undamaged hair containing an intact cuticle.6
