Prefab spa concept Spa Shell launches into the UK

UK consultancy Spa Creators has created a turnkey spa solution, delivered as a pre-built structure and containing everything needed to run a spa.

The Spa Shell concept is delivered on 18 trucks and lifted in place by a crane. It comes in a six or eight-treatment-room configuration.

The two-story structure, known as the oyster, features a thermal area with a sauna and steam room, a reception, a relaxation area, retail space, changing rooms and an outdoor vitality pool – all on the ground floor. The second floor comprises a lounge, juice bar, balcony overlooking the vitality pool and a back-of-house area with office space.

The equipment, IT system and operator setup is included and Spa Creators offers a recruitment service and ongoing spa management support post-opening. Spa Creators dirtector Alistair Johnson said: With this solution, a hotelier who knows nothing about spa can enter the world of spa.

Spa Shell is also designed to be suitable for businesses such as country clubs or wedding venues that are looking to add spa services to their offering. Businesses can either rent or buy the Spa Shell. While the exterior, which is Siberian larch wood, is fixed, the interior design can be tailored to each project.

Spa Creators is currently in conversation with a number of operators to sign the first Spa Shells and Johnson said he was close to signing a site near Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire. He added: We’re looking to have four sites live by the end of 2016, with the first hopefully installed and operational by May.

The concept will launch in the UK first, but is planned for international expansion. We want to have 30 in the UK, then a number of sites in Europe, and then look at the US and Australia, Johnson said.
