THE STATEMENT ONE Suits… all hair textures and oval faces Throw back to the 80s with this graphic cut. For most of us, a sweeping angled fringe isn’t suitable for every day, but with the help of a simple beret clip you can dial back the drama (when needed) for something a little more office appropriate.
THE CHOPPY ONE Suits… long and oval faces Blurring the lines between boyish bowl cut and feminine feathered layers, this is a look of two halves – and perfect for those scared of getting the chop. ‘The combination works because the fringe slopes away at the edges, seamlessly blending into the longer sides,’ says Neil Moodie, celebrity stylist and co-founder of Windle & Moodie.
THE SHAGGY ONE Suits… wavy or frizzy hair Effortlessly cool, this deliberately messy style is a modern take on the trend. ‘Definitely not perfect or symmetrical, the aim is for hair to look a bit lived in and what I call “chewed”,’ says Luke Hersheson, co-founder and creative director of Hershesons. ‘Accentuate the rugged feel of the layers with Hershesons Tourmaline Professional Curling Tong [£98], but don’t tong in front of the mirror – you want it to look random.’

THE SLEEK ONE Suits… fine hair and heart-shaped faces This works best with smooth locks, so if you’re curly haired, straighten to flatten strands close to the head and seal into place with a dollop of Windle & Moodie Shine & Smoothing Oil, £23 (Johnlewis.com). ‘To modernise a sharp cut, it’s all about clever styling tweaks,’ explains Moodie. ‘My top tip? For a softer feel, curl the tips in towards the chin with your hairdryer.’
THE FULL-BODIED ONE Suits … all hair textures and heart-shaped faces ‘Blunt bobs can be hard to wear in real life,’ says Hersheson. ‘But the gappy, broken fringe here makes this instantly more wearable.’ Transform a straight ’do by spritzing liberally with Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray, £10 (Fabled.com), and roughing up strands with your fingers.
