If you’re there for a massage, you’ll want to shower after you get out of the sauna or tub, and before your massage begins, to get the chlorine off your body. In choosing the beauty spa, you should have had a discussion with the staff about the kinds of services that you would enjoy and find beneficial. You will also usually have the option of choosing to receive certain services from a male or a female therapist, and should decide whether gender matters to your comfort level. You may be more comfortable during such procedures as leg waxing or massage, if you specify whether the staff administering them is male or female. Knowing what you can expect to spend calls for reviewing the beauty spa’s list of services and fees, which you should be able to receive in advance of your visit. Typical prices may vary according to the type of beauty spa you are attending. Day beauty spas that try to cater to a broad cross-section of the public may be less expensive than services at a hotel or resort beauty spa. For instance, at a resort, you might expect to pay as much as $120 for a massage or a facial, and anywhere from $30 to $60 for a manicure or pedicure likely far more than you would pay for these services at a day beauty spa or beauty parlor. It is entirely appropriate to request a price list before you go to your first visit, so that you will be neither embarrassed nor stressed about paying the bill. Frequent beauty spa visitors recommend tipping the person who delivered your service in the range of 10 to 20 percent of the bill.
