BUTTER – A lustrous emollient but what about the regular butter, churned from cream, that sits in your refrigerator? Yes, actual butter, and even its margarine alternatives can work as a moisturizing conditioner in a pinch. You may want to pop some popcorn, or butter some biscuits while this fatty goodness sits in your hair, for 30 minutes to an hour, but your tresses will glisten and retain moisture like a cactus in a desert. Give this recipe a try if you don’t want to use the butter on its own:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup or 4 tablespoons butter (This really can be any butter, from Country Crock, to shea butter, to mango butter. Any butter you love will do because it just so happens the butter you cook with can be used if you run out of the others.)

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

3 tablespoons honey

3 tablespoons almond oil

Directions:

Blend the ingredients together in a bowl. You may want to warm the butters to make them more susceptible to hand mixing. Once they’re combined, lather the elixir onto your hair and scalp. Cover for 20 minutes and rinse with warm to cool water.

Dry and style as usual.
