A University of Illinois study examined the dietary habits of more than 18,300 adults and found that most people who increased the amount of plain water they drank reduced their daily calorie intake and lowered their consumption of fat, sugar and sodium to boot. In a study of over 200,000 people, researchers at Harvard University found that although full-fat dairy foods didn’t increase heart attack and stroke risk compared to a diet high in refıned carbohydrates, they didn’t decrease cardiovascular risk either. When dairy fat was replaced with the same number of calories from polyunsaturated fat, though, risk of cardiovascular disease dropped by 24 per cent. ‘These results strongly support existing recommendations to choose mainly unsaturated fats from vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, avocados and some oily fish for a heart- healthy diet,’ says lead study author Dr Frank Hu.
