Kemi Onasanya, 26, married Yomi Akosile, 31, at The Golden Palace Banqueting Suite, London KEMI SAYS ‘We met at a Nigerian restaurant where I’d won a competition to be wined and dined by R&B duo P-Square. Yomi was one of the organisers and we ended up sitting next to each other – I love telling that story. We got engaged on my birthday in Dubai in 2016.

As we were leaving for dinner, Yomi said he had one more present for me, and got down on one knee in the hotel lobby! When it came to the day, we were keen to honour our heritage and the Nigerian traditions that mean so much to us. Yomi wore a traditional suit with a gown (agbada) and hat (fila); I wore a wrap skirt (iro), blouse (buba), head tie (gele) and shoulder shawl (ipele).
Ultimately, it was all about bringing Nigeria to London! The reception included African drums, plus a live band and a DJ (all from Nigeria, of course!) to help us celebrate into the night.’ MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ‘In Nigeria, the bride and the groom come down the aisle separately with their own wedding parties, and it’s always one of the most joyous parts of the ceremony. Yomi’s entrance with his groomsmen was full of vigour and rhythm (it symbolises that he’s from good, healthy stock!) – and our guests just loved it!’
