Wedding at The Herb Patch

Kristi Murray, 27, married Holly Shadforth, 27, at The Herb Patch in Consett, County Durham KRISTI SAYS ‘Holly and I met in summer 2015, by Christmas we’d moved in together, and three months later we got engaged (I did the asking!). I never wanted to get married, but when I met Holly I thought, “I never, ever want to let you go.”

We’re both laid-back and wanted the day to reflect that, plus we had a small budget (£3,000), so we had to get creative. We found a field in the Durham countryside via Facebook and decorated it with flowers, hay bales and fairy lights. Our outfits were both under £100 (I chose a skirt and top from Etsy and Holly wore an Asos dress) and our bridesmaids’ dresses were £4 each from Primark. In keeping with our festival theme, we had a food truck serving spaghetti, and a bar with real ale and cider.’ HOLLY SAYS ‘My favourite part of the day was the ceremony.

We carried flowers made of Harry Potter pages and walked down the aisle together (being given away felt too traditional). And the fact we wrote our own vows was special. Kristi is a writer and she had the minister (a friend who got ordained to marry us) and the crowd laughing and in tears. For us, it wasn’t just a celebration of love, but of a love without prejudice.’ MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ‘At the end of the ceremony, the minister announced that instead of one of us taking the other’s name, we’d chosen a new one that we would wear as a symbol of our everlasting love: Rose.’
